TIPS

Some tips for a meaningful pilgrimage...

  • If you aren't familiar with the Mohawk Valley, make sure to dress in layers and bring warm clothes. The temperature can vary a lot as the day progresses, especially in spring and fall.
  • Bring bug spray if you plan to go into the Ravine. At certain times through the summer, the mosquitos can be thick by the stream there. (Click here for a mosquito forecast.)
  • If you are bringing a group, call ahead to schedule a tour of the grounds to learn about the rich history behind the Shrine.

Camping Regulations
  1. Each party must book their visit with the Shrine office (ext 221) at least 2 months ahead of their planned visit. Failure to do so will result in the denial of privileges. At the time of booking, each party must state their time of arrival and their time of departure. They will then be sent a registration form to be returned within 10 days with all information filled out.
  2. There are no outlets or hook-ups for campers and trailers in the camping area.
  3. There are no showers available. The available bathrooms are the hillside bathrooms for men and women located on Shrine Road. Should the group need more facilities than are available on the Shrine's property, click here to see a list of available hotels/motels in the area that do have facilities.
  4. The group coordinator must give the registration number of the vehicles that will be here for the visit. A donation is expected from the group and is determined by the size of the group.
  5. If you wish to have a campfire, you must request permission when you book your visit. Only 1 campfire will be allowed per group. There needs to be sufficient adult supervision.
  6. Parking for camping groups will be permitted in the Visitor Center Parking Area only!
  7. Each group is expected to clean up the area that they stay in. It should be left in the same way as when you arrive. Trash can be taken back with you or placed in the dumpster behind the Visitor Center.
Any deviation from the above regulations will result in dismissal from the Shrine premises and the group will not be allowed to return.
